🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- What song would a siren sing to your character to lure them closer? Why?
- If you'd like pixies to change one event in your character's life, what would it be and why?
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
There is no song that can be sung that would lure him. Instead, all you would need is the simple sound of a piano, alone and open. The original Verso was a musician never truly allowed to pursue his passion and that fact remained even in this Verso, who finds a joy in playing music that can't be found anywhere else. So the allure of having a moment, if only a moment, to play -- and possibly for an audience -- would draw him in more than anything else. After all, nothing makes him happier than sitting and playing with and/or for his sisters, the world melting away in the simple melodies and the joy of the moment. Honestly, if anything, Verso is the siren singing a tune to draw sailors to their deaths. He is the impossible dream that only leads to misery, perhaps not even intentionally. And like any good siren, he's grown long since numbed to the deaths around him, embittered and unphased by the blood on his hands. Maybe for a moment, if he plays the piano, he can forget that. If only for a moment.
There are a lot of events in Verso's long, miserable life that could be changed to make things better, but more than anything he'd say.... he doesn't want to exist. His life the last few decades have been dedicated to pursuing this (among other things), but at the end of the day Verso considers his existence to be torment. He's the copy of a ghost, made to help someone unable to work through their grief. He is doomed to never die because his original already died once. The Dessendres either cling to him and project someone he isn't onto him, or they resent him for not being the real Verso -- sometimes both. He is so, so tired of it, and feels his presence hasn't even helped anyone around him, painted or otherwise. So wouldn't it have been better if they'd just never made him? If Verso had remained a beloved and bereaved memory, and not the pale imitation he's forced to exist as? Even though there are moments of joy he'd have missed, they are so tainted by the overwhelming burden of his grief and the pain his existence has caused that he just doesn't want this. He doesn't want this life, he doesn't want this sad story, he doesn't want his family to destroy themselves for him when he's not even real. His passive (or not so passive) suicidal impulses in this regard have lead him to disregard the lives and happiness of others, as well, even if it pains him even more to do that. Verso is stuck in an endless loop of suffering all centering around him and he thinks the only way out would have been to never have existed in the first place.
You must always remember that, above all things, Verso is a liar. He's not malicious, and he isn't even greedy, but he is a liar. He's manipulative and will do anything to get what he feels is best, no matter who it hurts or what lies he has to tell. He'll let people die if he worries there's even a chance they might ruin his plan, and then lie and say there was nothing he could do. In every moment of every day, Verso lies, because he can never bring himself to show his true self. He smiles and charms to hide the torment and the cruelty within him, the horrible things he's done and knows he has to do. Even his original, the true Verso, was a liar to some regard -- He Who Guards Truth With Lies, as Renoir observed, symbolized by endless masks. And in the rare, vulnerable moments he tells the truth, it's pulling his heart out of his chest to reveal it to others. Verso is a raw wound and only his deceit keeps the infection away, even if it doesn't lessen the pain. Perhaps the only thing him and the true Verso share, in the end, was their tendency to shy away from the truth.
While Verso might be a little sad, mostly he'd be numb. Maybe he wouldn't be surprised, since time in the Canvas passes so much more rapidly in the "real" world, so it only follows the same is true in the fae realm. His curse of immortality also means he's already watched the endless years tick by, watched anyone he might have cared about die or be stuck in the same endless loop that he is. If anything, he'd be disappointed that his plans had fallen apart, or... maybe disappointed that he went back at all. All he wants is to send his mother home and end the torment they're all stuck in, and another few hundred years is just a setback to that, not a tragedy. Not for him, at least. That's assuming there's even anything to come back to, and not just an endless waste devoid of life (except for him, because of course). All in all the very concept would just fill him with an emptiness of disappointment and resentment. Of course this would happen again. Of course nothing can be done, not for so long. Of course there is nothing but death and misery spread out for him to wallow in. Such is his punishment for even existing, isn't it?
